This week’s notes
Why is the idea of the magic so relevant right now?
Samhain is a magical time! Connected with the thinning of the veil between the human and spirit worlds, and the ‘death’ and renewal of nature’s cycle through the year (the equivalent of New Year’s Eve in the Gregorian calendar), it offers a portal of possibility: hope, promise, and belief in things that perhaps we can’t see but we can feel.
As the gateway to winter, it also leads into a part of the year (November until the Winter Solstice in December) that is full of magical elements all designed to act as glimmers in the darkness - candlelight, bonfires, sparklers, fairy lights, games, traditions…things that bring childlike play, wonder and delight to a season that can in some ways feel hard to navigate.
The archetype of October on our Rewilding Wheel is the Enchantress, a facet of the broader Mystic archetype of autumn, and this part of ourselves is all about embracing the magic both around and within us.
