Welcome to your weekly edition of Wildheart Club! Every Wednesday afternoon throughout the current season of the podcast, we’ll be sharing notes to accompany our most recent conversation - alongside journal prompts to deepen your exploration of the word and themes we chat about.

This post relates to Season 11, Episode 4: Permission. We recommend listening to the episode first, before exploring the notes and prompts below.

This week’s notes

Why is the idea of permission so relevant right now?

In our last two episodes we’ve talked about delight and thriving, both of which can be related to joy, abundance, pleasure, savouring - all things that summer encourages us to embrace, but that can also bring up feelings of discomfort or guilt. Often during this full and busy season (of the year, or of life) we can end up feeling as though we need to seek permission to allow ourselves to slow down or feel content for a while instead of striving for more, so we thought it might be helpful to consider this theme in more depth.

Summer’s also a time when we might desire some time away from work or responsibilities, which again can cause us to seek permission, and it’s also a time (as we’ve spoken about already in this series) that can feel like it has to be lived and experienced in a particular way. It can be helpful, therefore, to consider how we might instead give ourselves permission to do things differently. Supporting this aim is the current astrological season of Gemini, which runs from May 20th until June 21st, and is all about questioning ‘shoulds’ and breaking away from societal rules. Perhaps Gemini’s version of permission can help us learn to go against the grain where needed.
