Meet the wild self: a journey through the sensuous months
Walking with the Creatrix, the Sovereign and the Guardian
In this series of four posts, we’ll meet the 12 archetypes of the Rewilding Wheel that each offer support to guide you back to your wild self - that instinctual, rooted part of you that belongs to and emerges from the earth. We’ve explored the question ‘what is the wild self?’ previously, but in this series you’ll discover that this part of our identity isn’t fixed or singular; it shapeshifts with the seasons.
Read the first post of the series and meet the winter archetypes.
Read the second post of the series and meet the spring archetypes.
As we move through the sensuous months of the year, three archetypes rise to meet us: the Creatrix, the Sovereign and the Guardian. These summer personas invite us into full expression, courageous presence, and a deeper sense of devotion. Their guidance is most potent in the season of light - but they live within us always, ready to be drawn upon when we’re ready to let our life force shine, or when we’re called to protect what matters most.
As the Wheel turns and the land reaches its peak of abundance, we enter a time of illumination and ripening. This is the season of fire, of life at its fullest stretch, and these three wild archetypes appear in turn throughout May, June and July to guide us as we embody the wild self in its most spirited form.
The Creatrix - May
Ignited by the first flush of summer, the Creatrix arrives to help us step into the sun, burning brightly as our truest selves. Fuelled by wisdom gained during the depths of winter, which blooms into radical clarity with the flowering of the land, this archetype supports us to live with expressive authenticity.
Blending the playful and adventurous energy of the outgoing air element of spring with the incoming flame of summer’s fire, the Creatrix moves us boldly towards generative action in pursuit of the life we desire.
The Sovereign - June
The Sovereign self mirrors the flourishing summer oak in full leaf: resilient, rooted, and rising; devoted to long-term prosperity and growth. Strong, courageous and passionate, this solar-powered archetype protects our peace by holding firm boundaries and keeps our spark alive by helping us reach towards the light.
“Be the leader of your own life!” calls the Sovereign, loud and clear, reminding us to make active choices where we can, instead of simply flowing with the status quo.
The Guardian - July
As the sun’s power gently begins to wane after passing the longest day, the Guardian comes to the fore, reminding us to soften and slow like the season. Our inner nurturing mother, this archetype encourages us to name what we need and offer it to ourselves with care and compassion, as a balm to soothe the soul.
In preparation for the coming of harvest time, and the bustling ‘gathering months’ of autumn beyond, the Guardian reminds us to replenish ourselves in whatever ways feel needed: to pour back in the love and energy we pour out to the world, to ensure the fiery season of summer doesn’t end in burnout.
These archetypes thrive in the light, and they call us into clear-eyed alignment, wholehearted commitment, and fierce integrity. They help us to hold both power and softness, intensity and discernment.
