A spring oracle
Intuitive guidance for the season
What are oracle and tarot cards?
Oracle cards are a self-reflection tool, usually found in decks of 30-60. Their design is not prescriptive, but they usually follow a specific theme. Tarot cards have been used from at least the 15th century, and consist of a 78-card deck. There are major and minor arcana (22 and 56 cards respectively) that combine to offer insight into the self.
Both oracle and tarot cards can be used in a ‘spread’, for which guidance is given on how to place the cards down, and what they might represent. They can also be chosen at random, and some choose to pick one card to guide each day.
Our approach to using oracle / tarot cards
Many people use oracle and tarot cards for divination, i.e. to predict the future. Here at The Wild Academy, we see them more as a tool to unearth what is already present within the self.
For instance, if you are struggling to make a decision about something, and then pull three cards (one symbolising the past, one the present, one the future), the idea is to then tune in to what the card means to you in this moment. We try not to follow the definitions as described in guidebooks too fully, and move towards what the image or words are bringing up in terms of our response.
Early & late spring spreads
We have included an early and late spring spread for you to try here. Begin by shuffling your deck of either oracle or tarot cards, then choose from the top and place your cards in any shape that feels intuitive. Turn to the prompt questions, and consider what wisdom the card may offer you in response. You may just like to sit and think about what comes up, or you could journal these responses.
EARLY SPRING SPREAD
What still feels dormant?
What is holding me back?
What is rising within me?
What is ready to emerge?
What am I moving towards this season?
LATE SPRING SPREAD
What embers are still alight?
How can I ignite these embers?
What is burning brightly?
What is tempering my flame?
What is in my heart?

ORACLE DECKS
We’d love to know if using oracle and/or tarot cards is a regular part of your practice? Let us know how you use them, and what decks you recommend!

I’ve had friends through the years who were truly gifted with the cards. This is a lovely idea to use them while atuning to the garden. I am of the age where sitting with a cup of coffee in the morning does the same job!
